The Guest Speaker, Antonio Mura, Prosecutor General at Venice Court of Appeal. Mr Mura has a distinguished legal career. Until recently, he was the Head of the Department for Justice Affairs at the Italian Ministry of Justice, in Rome. Mr Mura was responsible for the co-ordination of all the Italian representatives of the Ministry during the semester of Italian Presidency of the EU, chairing also the Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) between EU and USA (Rome, September 2014), included the Office for International Judicial Co-operation, also he issued directives to the Italian Desk of Eurojust, as well as being responsible for the Commission for the evaluation of public prosecutors and judges to be assigned to international posts and activities by the Minister of Justice. From 1998 to 2014, he worked as Deputy Prosecutor General at the Corte di cassazione (the Italian Supreme Court). In this role, Mr Mura dealt with a number of high profile criminal cases, which included numerous mafia cases (against the top management of criminal organizations coming from Sicily and other parts of Southern Italy), several murder cases, including those of judges and public prosecutors (for example, among others, the murders of judges Rosario Livatino and Giacomo Ciaccio Montalto), terrorism cases (attacks committed by the so-called Red Brigades, with murders of policemen), as well dealing with tax crimes, bribery, kidnappings, human trafficking etc. Mr Mura also worked for several years as Secretary-General of the General Prosecution Office at the Italian Supreme Court.
