October Dinner Debate: "What's love got to do with it?" Tackling violence against women - with Nazir Afzal OBE

It has already been a number of years now that BILA holds, in October, a dinner during which, after enjoying the lovely food provided by the venue, when we would otherwise be lingering over coffee, the Guests are further treated to a speech by a prestigious Guest Speaker, to which lively debate would usually follow.

The truly tragic events of this year, coupled with the measures imposed to prevent the further spreading of the Coronavirus pandemic have now brought a halt to most social gatherings with the sole exception of those held online, thanks to the marvel of modern technology. Thus BILA Dinner Debate follows suit this year, without (alas) the dinner, but with our Guest Speaker, Nazir Afzal OBE, delivering an online speech, with a questions and answers session at the end (so, sorry, no coffee and chocolates, but you can bring your own).

You are therefore invited to join an online Debate on the subject of:-

WHAT’S LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT?” - TACKLING VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

This year’s Guest Speaker, Nazar Afzal OBE, will talk on this subject at 6:30 pm on Thursday 15 October 2020.

Nazir Afzal OBE is a former Chief Crown Prosecutor and was Chief Executive of the UK’s Police & Crime Commissioners. Today he sits in the board of the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) and is also National Adviser on Gender Based Violence to the Welsh Government. In 2018 he joined the advisory board of Google’s Innovation Fund for counter-extremism.
